The skull was discovered by Louis Leakey's son Richard at a site on Lake Rudolf in Northern Kenya., and named KMN-ER 1470.
The skull was dated at being 2.9 million years old. This caused a problem.
By evolutionist time tables, this skull should have appeared quite primitive, and the brain capacity should have been much less then modern man.
The cranial size was large (800 cc) and it had a very modern appearance.
The skull was so different from what evolution theory would predict that Richard Leakey said "either we toss out this skull, or we toss out our theories of early man". It simply fit no evolutionary models.
What is the most troubling to evolutionists is that 1470's cranial capacity is well within the range of modern man.
Not only does 1470 qualify for true human status based on cranial size, shape, and thickness, but there is evidence inside of the skull of a Broca's area, the part of the brain that controls the muscle used in speech.
I though this was half man, half ape?
Now to the reconstruction. What reconstruction, you ask? Well the fact is that this skull that they proudly display was found in hundreds of little pieces. They don't mention that when they show the artist's painting.
Roger Lewin, who was associated with Leakey tells that there were clearly 2 ways that the skull could be reconstructed. One approach would look modern, the other primitive.
The fact that the primitive approach was taken is due to the evolutionary preconceptions that were used.
Bias was also obvious in the way famed artist Jay Matternes put "flesh" on the bones of 1470. (See June 1973 issue National Geographic)
He depicted the skull to be a young black woman with an ape like nose.
Human noses are composed of cartilage which normally does not fossilize, and the nose was definitely missing from 1470.
The only purpose in giving the reconstructed skull an ape like nose was to "make" her look primitive. (Remember we are talking about hundreds of little pieces)
So millions of americans gazed at the picture convinced that the evidence truly indicated that this skull at one time appeared this way, totally unaware of the deceptive way it was presented to us. This is the evidence that they have used to sell us on evolution.
